6/26/2023 0 Comments Fable 4 developerOne thing that I always loved about Fable was that it was good for a laugh. It needs to be silly and chock full of classy British humor. KEEP ITS SOUL! The soul of Fable is vital to this revival. There is still a fan base willing to follow if they toe the line and keep to these guidelines. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that they have today’s technology behind them. Really look at what worked and expand on that. They just need to fall into the trap of reinventing the wheel. If they respect the foundations of the games while bringing a fresh perspective, we may have the best Fable game yet. This is where Playground Games might be the saving grace and from the trailer, I think they may have it. Things were focused on that maybe shouldn’t have been and others were left behind. But somewhere along the way, the magic was lost. Lionhead produced, in my opinion, a masterpiece. Sometimes it takes another person to point out the flaws and see the better paths for your creation. Who knows? Either way, we all know this can go south fast.Īs a writer, however, I know that a fresh set of eyes can be one of the most important tools in your arsenal. Maybe it’s just my PTSD from the Star Wars debacle. But I always cringe when I hear someone else is taking over a story from an original creator. The beloved creators of Fable are dead and buried as a studio. Each installment felt like a huge step backward and for most, the magic was lost.Īnyone who games know that Lionhead Studios is gone. Firearms were added and I’m not sure anyone was crazy about that. ![]() ![]() The dog was awesome in Fable II and then a throwaway in Fable III. The graphics improved and they introduced some new things like the dog. ![]() A series is supposed to get better as it progresses, and in some cases it did. The other two, however, never quite felt the same as the first. But who cares? I still loved reliving every second of it. You all know what I mean – that feeling you get when you find a new series that you love. I remembered so clearly just how crazy cool this game was when it was released. I recently replayed the original Fable and was instantly transported to another time. Now, this was quite a while ago, so this idea was a bit linear. You simply existed and created your own story in your way. Then there was the fact that its entire premise was around being a Hero. Your choices in how you treated those around you had consequences. Your look would change, your relationship with the NPCs and they interacted with you. But Fable was most definitely my first experience with an alignment system quite like this. Maybe I’m wrong and feel free to let me know. Sure, there were other alignment systems out there like Knights of the Old Republic, but nothing quite like this. ![]() It was silly and British and dove into a sense of morality that was unseen in many games of the same time. With Playground bringing their experience in developing open-world games, and the combat taking some help from gameplay designers that have worked on some of the best in-game combat systems out there – systems that are very compatible to the Fable games of years past – the key elements are in place to make Fable 4 a reboot well worth getting excited for.Fable was something different. Let's not forget the caliber of the game's writers, either, including the lead quest designer for the Borderlands series, a level designer for GTA 5 and GTA Online, and a whole load of writers who worked on Batman: Arkham Knight. Head of Xbox Phil Spencer seems confident that Playground can do the Fable franchise justice, and there are plenty of aspects of the Forza series – like its dynamic weather system, or gorgeously-rendered landscapes – that could make Fable 4's world a spectacular sandbox. Looking back at the spells used in Fable 2, for instance, it's clear that there's some shared DNA – with the game's Time Control, Inferno, and Force Push matching up closely with the and Yrden, Igni, Aard spells in The Witcher described above. The Witcher's combat systems are built around a mix of melee weapons and both ranged and area-of-effect spells that can distort time, hurl fire, telekinetically shove enemies, and the like.
